The Stories That Found Me
Behind the Song
The Mountain Matriarchy project was born in my kitchen, sparked by a single song, Josephine. She was everything opposite of me: unrelenting, wild, and unafraid to ruffle some feathers. But something in her story lit a fire in me.
From the historically accurate recount of the first and only woman hung in Alberta, to the story or a bear that wandered into town from the mountains, to the story of a woman who has worked so hard to keep weeds that would kill the original plants out of the parks near her house, to a story of a woman who helped me find a trail when I was lost in a storm.
Each of these women’s stories has helped shape the woman I am today, and the one I’m becoming. But the greatest part of this journey has been the chance to share them.
