Long Bio
Aly can’t help but sing about the mountains near her home in rural Southern Alberta.
Her music celebrates the history and landscape of her home in near the Rocky Mountains and the experiences of women in these places.
A childhood of skiing on the west coast first connected her to the mountains and when she is not singing she loves spending time in wild spaces. From trail running, to hunting, to climbing and paddling.
She holds the Fastest Known Time for completing the TripleCrown in Waterton: 60km over 3 mountains in 9 and a half hours.
In 2022 she set a female record on the Yukon River, paddling 1000 miles in 6 days with her friend Heidi Virtanen. She was singing the entire time. These experiences, as well as a deep inspiration from the women who broke trail before her, inspire her folky music.
Her vocals- pure with a hint of Irish lament- are complimented by intricate and rhythmic guitar that transports you to the mountains that her songs are inspired by.
Drawing from the wealth of stories from the Alberta Rockies, her songs celebrate the stories of females who blazed the trail before her.
She released her first single "Wise Woman of the Woods," in Summer of 2024, is releasing her second single: "I'll Do Anything (To Live by This Mountainside) on February 28th, and is releasing her first album to streaming over 2025-2026 with the help of the Calgary Arts Development Grant.

(Josephine)

Most famously, she started a business providing Moonshine to men on the railway. The Railway was on the other side of the North fork River, and Josephine would deliver the liquor by boat after the men put in their order-1 quart for every train whistle.
